After soft launch in late 2022,  the British American Football Association (BAFA)  have formally launched its strategy for Flag Officiating and alongside that the online officiating qualifications.

BAFA released the flag football resources webpage with a strategy document detailing how they plan to incrementally improve this core mechanic of our game as well as direct access to the online courses themselves.

Adult Flag Requirements and Minimum Standards:
To ensure continued progress in this space we will gradually implement/increase minimum standards for teams annually until we reach a critical mass. In 2023 there will be no minimum requirement for Youth teams, though early engagement is encouraged.

As communicated to this year’s NFFL Teams on 31st October meeting the minimum criteria will be part of league entry and progress will be tracked. After careful consideration, the minimum mark will be 1x Lvl 2 official and 2x Lvl 1 officials per team prior to season kick-off. If a club has multiple teams, this requirement is repeated for every team to ensure there is coverage across all teams.

This same requirement will be extended to all WFFL teams in 2023 and we invite them to engage with the process early.
